Hi @WmAA,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the "E" error on your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the new cartridge is properly installed. Remove it and reinsert it into the printer, making sure it clicks into place securely.

Check for Protective Tape: Confirm that all protective tapes or covers have been removed from the cartridge. These tapes can block the ink flow if not removed.

Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on. A reset can sometimes resolve error states.

Error Code Meaning: The "E" code generally indicates an error related to the cartridge or the printer itself. It may be beneficial to consult the printer manual or HP’s support website for more specific error code meanings and solutions related to your model.

Clean Cartridge Contacts: Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth to remove any dust or ink residue that could be causing connectivity issues.

Align or Clean Printhead: Use the printer’s menu or the HP Smart app to align the printhead or perform a printhead cleaning. This option can often be found in the printer’s maintenance settings.

Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure the printer firmware is up-to-date. This can sometimes fix bugs or improve cartridge recognition. Firmware updates can be found on HP’s support page.

Cartridge Compatibility: Double-check that the cartridge is the correct model for your HP DeskJet 2855e and that it is an original HP cartridge. Non-genuine cartridges may cause errors.

Inspect Paper and Scanner Settings: Ensure there are no paper jams and the system settings for scanning and printing are correct.

I hope this helps.
