When I request an individual page to be printed via the print dialogue box on any software, say page 2 of a 5-page Word document, the printing hangs up in the print spooler.  To print anything else I restart the print spooler on the services.msc screen. This allows me to print the entire document, but if I select a single page to print the problem will occur again.  Before buying a new HP computer with windows 11 I did not have the problem printing selected pages on my HP 3755 and on my HP 5255 printer I have not experience this problem.  Both printers are attached via a USB port and cable to the printer.  I updated latest HP firmware for the 3755 yesterday (two files) in hopes that would resolve the problem, but no change.  Thanks to the community as I stumbled on the advice on restarting the print spooler.  I'm wondering if it is an issue interacting with windows 11 or do I have to do something special to be able to print selected pages of a document without having the print spooler hang up?

@Dollar-Bill1, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

I understand you're experiencing a spooler hang when printing selected pages (e.g., page 2 of 5) from your HP DeskJet 3755 via USB on a Windows 11 PC. You've already updated the printer firmware and found that restarting the spooler temporarily resolves the issue, great troubleshooting so far!

This issue is likely related to Windows 11 spooler service behavior, especially with certain document formats or driver interactions. Here's a step-by-step guide to resolve it:

Clear the Print Spooler Cache

Sometimes stale or corrupt spooler files cause issues with selective page printing.

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll down and right-click "Print Spooler", then choose Stop.
  3. Open File Explorer and navigate to:
    C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS
(Click "Continue" if prompted for admin access.)
  4. Delete all files in this folder (do not delete the folder itself).
  5. Go back to services.msc, right-click Print Spooler, and choose Start.

Run HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

This tool can automatically detect and repair common printing issues.

  • Download and run the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.
  • In the app, go to "Printer Settings" > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Use Diagnose & Fix in the HP app to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support

Reinstall the Printer Driver Using HP Easy Start

A clean reinstall ensures the correct driver is used and removes any corrupted configurations.

  1. Disconnect the USB cable.
  2. Uninstall the printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  3. Download HP Easy Start:
    Official HP® Support
  4. Run Easy Start and follow prompts to reinstall the printer.
  5. Reconnect the USB cable when prompted.

Optional: Use Microsoft IPP Class Driver

If the issue persists, try switching to the Microsoft IPP Class Driver:

  • Go to Settings > Printers & scanners.
  • Click your printer > Manage > Printer Properties.
  • Under the Advanced tab, change the driver to Microsoft IPP Class Driver.
  • Click Apply and test printing a single page.

Note: This may limit some advanced HP features but can improve stability.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!

Thanks for these solutions Max3AJ.  I have been using all of these for the past few days in an effort to get the HP 3755 to print individual pages (say page 2 of 5).  I have worn the ink off my power button restarting my computer.  The printing of selected pages with the standard print window still does not work even after multiple print spooler clearing, deleting all the files in spool folder, running the HP diagnosis and fix and deleting and reinstalling the printer.   I did discover if I view a pdf file that I want to print selected pages for and use the standard print menu the document gets hung up in the print spooler and I go thru all the steps mentioned to resolve the problem.   However, if I download the pdf file, I get this onscreen view which pops up (probably some Adobe type functionality) with a printer icon near the top that opens up a print menu that is more extensive than the standard print option.  So far using this method has been successful for printing selected pages from PDF files.

After doing all of your suggested steps again, I tried just now to print some bank statements which are not pdf files and those documents, when selecting individual pages to print, got hung up in the print spooler.  I again went thru the steps mentioned to remove the spooled print job, deleted and reinstalled the print driver and then tried printing all the pages and the document printed.   Until I have a solution I will just print out all of the pages even though most are not necessary (like this page left blank intentionally, endless disclosures, or advertisements).  I've been told the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.  I'm at stage with this problem.  Thanks again, but I'm still looking for a solution that resolves my issue.

@Dollar-Bill1, Thanks for the detailed update and for confirming that the issue persists despite all the recommended steps. Based on your findings, it appears the problem is isolated to selective page printing from non-PDF documents (e.g., Word, bank statements) using the standard Windows print dialog on Windows 11, while full-document printing works fine.

Your workaround using the PDF viewer’s enhanced print dialog is insightful, it suggests the issue may lie in how Windows 11’s default print dialog communicates with the HP DeskJet 3755 driver over USB.

Advanced Workarounds and Fixes to Try

Switch to HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) – PCL6 or PostScript

Try installing the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD), which offers broader compatibility and may handle selective page printing better.

Use Microsoft IPP Class Driver

This driver is more generic but often resolves spooler issues.

  • Go to Settings > Printers & scanners.
  • Click your printer > Manage > Printer Properties.
  • Under the Advanced tab, change the driver to Microsoft IPP Class Driver.
  • Click Apply and test selective page printing.

Print via HP Smart App/HP App

Instead of using the standard Windows print dialog, try printing directly from the HP Smart app, which uses HP’s optimized pipeline.

  • Open the document in Word or browser, save as PDF, and print via HP Smart.

Disable Print Spooler Rendering on Client Side

This forces rendering on the server (printer), which may bypass the spooler hang.

  • Open Printer Properties > Advanced tab.
  • Uncheck “Enable advanced printing features”.
  • Click Apply and test again.

I hope this helps!

Thanks again,

I tried all of 4 of the suggestions and here are the results.

Switch to HP UPD

This did not provide a solution to the issue.  I chose PCL6 first and then PostScript second.  Neither provided the ability to print selected pages.  Both bogged down in the spooler, and I had to stop and restart the spooler to eliminate the print job.

Use Microsoft IPP Class Driver

That was the original driver set up when I switched to the HP UPD driver in the above solution.  I switched back to this driver after attempting to use the HP UPD.  Still did not provide the ability to print individual pages.  Reset spooler to eliminate the print job.

Print via HP Smart App/HP app

This process worked, but it is a cumbersome process of printing as a pdf, saving the pdf file, then opening the pdf file, and printing from the saved file.  Individual selected pages printed but it should not be so cumbersome.

Disable Print Spooler Rendering on Client Side

The ability to uncheck "enable advanced printing features" was not available.  The check box was blocked so I could not test this option.

I find it hard to believe that other owners of 3755 printers don't have a similar problem.   Also, I noted during this process that Windows does not have a driver for the 3700 series. When I was in the printer properties for the 3700 series printer under settings changing to the UPD or IPP class driver there was box to select a new driver.   The 3700 series was not a driver option under HP drivers.  I select the Windows update box, ran the update and still no 3700 series driver was available.   I wonder why Windows do not have the driver for the 3700 series.

Thanks for your multiple responses.   My conclusion is HP or Windows needs to provide a driver for the 3700 series printer so they can perform as designed allowing individual pages to be printed.   Meanwhile I will print all of the pages wasting both ink and paper or use the cumbersome pdf solution.
