I have an HP 3830 office jet. When i try to print something it spots out 2 pieces of paper then says out of paper. It started when sending from my laptop, but I could still copy papers and print alignment page and so on. Now I cant not print anything at all. I have checked over and over for anything in the jam spots, i have cleaned the wheels, i have reset it, updated drivers, changed the paper size setting, changed the kind of paper, changed how much paper. I dont know what else to try.

Hi @Mystic7377
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already tried a lot of the standard troubleshooting steps for your HP OfficeJet 3830 printer, but the issue persists. If the printer is giving you the "out of paper" error, despite having paper loaded, and you've already checked for jams, cleaned the rollers, and updated drivers, here are a few additional steps you can try to resolve the issue:
1. Check the Paper Feed Mechanism
- Paper Pickup Rollers: The issue could still be with the paper feed mechanism. Even if you've cleaned the rollers, check if they are gripping the paper properly. Sometimes the rollers may become too smooth or worn, preventing the printer from picking up paper properly.
- If possible, clean the rollers again, but this time use a slightly damp lint-free cloth and gently rub the rollers to remove any dust or residue.
- If the rollers feel smooth and aren’t grabbing the paper firmly, you may need to replace them (this can be done by ordering replacement rollers from HP).
2. Check for Misaligned or Incorrect Paper Size Settings
- Sometimes, printers can get confused by paper size settings, especially if it’s set to something different than the actual paper in the tray.
- Make sure the paper size in the printer’s settings matches what’s loaded in the paper tray (e.g., A4 vs Letter).
- Double-check the paper type setting as well (plain, glossy, etc.) to ensure it’s aligned with the type of paper you're using.
3. Manually Feed Paper
- Try feeding the paper manually through the manual feed slot (if your model has one). This can help rule out any issues with the paper tray mechanism itself.
- Load one or two sheets of paper into the manual feed slot and try printing again. If the printer pulls the paper correctly, there may be an issue with the main paper tray, such as paper misalignment or a blockage.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I tried all those things this morning. Yesterday I moved the printer closer to my laptop and used a USB connection and it started printing again with no issues. This morning I turned everything on and went to print more and its back to doing the exact same thing. literally over night while shut off it started doing it again. Before all this started my printer would also print a page randomly. Since it stopped printing it also does not try to print out that random page.
