I use genuine HP ink cartridges. Every time I insert a new cartridge, a pop-up on the printer says "Alignment Recommended, load plain white paper in tray, then press OK to start alignment".  The paper tray is full when I get this pop up. This happens whenever I turn on the printer and I then have to press the "Later" button to defer the alignment. I know it's supposed to realign once when installing a new cartridge, but constant realignment would use a lot of ink.  How can I stop that annoying pop-up?

@Valinor77,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to know how to remove the alignment pop up on the printer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I would like to inform you that once you complete the alignment process the pop up will disappear. However, if you want to disable the alignment notification follow the below steps.

  • Under Settings in the Message Center in the HP Printer Utility.
  • Turn off Display HP Alerts.

If the issue persists then please review the following steps and check if that helps:

  • Open the Devices and Printers folder, right-click the HP printer, and then select Properties.
  • Click the Device Settings tab.
  • In the Installable Options section, set Printer Status Notification to either Enable or Disable.
  • Click OK.

    Figure (example) : Enable or disable Printer Status Notifications

The following conditions describe the possible situations that can enable or disable the Printer Status Notification setting in the driver's Device Settings properties.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I can't seem to find the HP Printer Utility. When I go to Control Panel and click on my printer, there is no device settings tab. By the way, when I first installed a new print cartridge, I did allow it to align the first time (but the pop up keeps coming up every time I now turn on the printer). Also, another question: I usually keep my printer off unless I need to use it. However, when I turn on my associated laptop each day, I get a pop-up screen which says scan to laptop unavailable. I know it's unavailable until I turn on my printer, but how can I eliminate that pop-up?

@Valinor77,

It is great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

You need to go to devices and printers on the computer and then right click on the printer and go to printer properties and you will find the above-mentioned settings.

Let me know how it goes.

Good day! Take care 🙂

Cheers!
