HP printer 6000 series.  It’s driving me nuts. Keeps telling me printer is out of paper when it’s not.  Can’t remove the cartridge to unblock it so have to turn it over to slide the plate back where the paper is stuck, then it happens again and again and so it goes on!

Hi @TBPB,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Dealing with a printer that continually reports being out of paper when it isn't can be incredibly frustrating. The HP 6000 series is generally reliable, but like any hardware, it can encounter issues. Here are some steps to help troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

Check for Any Paper Jams: Even a tiny piece of paper stuck somewhere in the printer can cause it to report being out of paper. Thoroughly check the paper path for any bits of paper or debris. You've mentioned having to turn it over to slide the plate back where the paper is stuck; ensure that no small pieces are left behind.

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers: Dust or paper fiber buildup on the rollers can cause feed problems. You can clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water. Wait for the rollers to dry completely before attempting to print again.

Adjust the Paper Settings: Make sure that the paper settings on the printer and within the print driver on your computer match the type of paper you are using. Incorrect settings can lead to feed issues.

Firmware Update: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. HP often release updates to fix known issues. You can find firmware updates on HP's official website under the support section for your printer model.

Reset the Printer: Sometimes, resetting the printer can clear error states. To reset your HP printer, turn it on and then disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall socket. Wait about a minute, reconnect everything, and turn the printer back on.

Paper Tray and Guides: Ensure that the paper is loaded correctly in the tray and that the guides are snug but not too tight against the stack of paper. Sometimes, if the paper is not seated properly or the guides are too tight, it can prevent the paper from being picked up correctly.

Try Different Paper: If the paper is too thick, thin, or has a surface that’s too glossy, the printer might have trouble feeding it. Try a different type or brand of paper that meets the printer's specifications.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
