Hi @Sidney76,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 6100e is making an annoying noise even after following all standard troubleshooting steps. Let’s go through some things to check since this is a common issue that can persist.

Identify the Source of the Noise

Open the printer carefully while it’s on.

Listen to determine if the noise is coming from:

Paper feed/rollers

Printhead carriage

Internal fan

Check for Obstructions

Remove all paper from the tray and look for any small scraps of paper, labels, or debris inside.

Even tiny bits of debris can cause grinding or squeaking noises.

Inspect the Carriage and Rollers

Move the printhead (carriage) gently by hand (with printer off).

Ensure it slides smoothly along the rail.

Check the rollers for dust or misalignment.

Clean rollers with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water.

Lubrication (if mechanical noise)

Some HP printers can develop squeaky rails.

Use a small amount of silicone-based lubricant on the metal rail of the carriage (avoid oil).

Check for Firmware Updates

Go to HP Support → Software & Drivers → HP 6100e.

Install any firmware updates, as some noises are caused by carriage calibration routines that are updated in firmware.

Try a Different Paper Type

Thinner or damaged paper can sometimes cause unusual feeding noises.

Use fresh, standard-weight printer paper.

Test Without Cartridges

Power the printer on with cartridges removed (if safe for your model).

If the noise stops, the issue may be with a misaligned cartridge or carriage tension.

I hope this helps.

After following all you recommendation's, I still have the sound, it’s like  a cricket (the insect) and only when the printer is on “standby”, low power mode/display off. Any further suggestions as I’m not the only person hearing this from their printer?
