HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My printer no longer prints blue. It comes out as brown or any shade but blue. I cleaned the print heads and did everything suggested. I have put in new cartridges since it started and they come from HP so that is not the issue. Also today when I printed a test page a couple of the horizontal lines are missing and it could not be fixed. I purchased it in 2019 from HP directly. This is my home printer and it doesn't get heavy use.

Hi @Nana72353 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already taken several troubleshooting steps. Here are a few more things you can try to address the issue of your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 not printing blue correctly:

Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the blue ink cartridge has sufficient ink. Sometimes, despite being new, cartridges can have issues.

Clean Print Heads Manually: Sometimes automated cleaning may not be sufficient. You can manually clean the print heads:

  • Remove the blue ink cartridge.
  • Moisten a cotton swab with distilled water.
  • Gently wipe the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer where the cartridge sits.
  • Let it dry for a few minutes before reinserting the cartridge.

Run Print Quality Diagnostic: Your printer might have a built-in diagnostic tool to check and improve print quality. This can usually be accessed through the printer's control panel or via the printer software on your computer.

Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve print quality issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer

Check Printer Settings: Verify that the printer settings on your computer are correct. Ensure that they match the type of paper you are using and that color settings are appropriate.

Print a Test Page: Use the printer's control panel to print a test page directly from the printer itself. This can help determine if the issue is with the printer or the connection to your computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
