I am trying to print from Word using mailmerge with excel, where my address info is stored. I set up an envelope in Word with my return address info in the top left corner and my address info front and center.  When I print to a 5 x 7" envelope I lose the left half of the info completely and it prints upside down from the other envelopes that I print. I have used this method to print on #10 envelopes for my business mailings and I have used this method to print 3 x 7" money gift envelopes for the Grandchildren, but I can't get things to work properly for my 5 x 7" Christmas cards. I can get things to work on an A7 envelope, but the output is not where it should be. My handwriting is not that great, so I don't want to hand address my 3 dozen Christmas cards. Help.

Hi @Roy124,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You’ve done a great job explaining the issue. The problem is with Word’s envelope layout and printer alignment for custom sizes. HP printers like the ENVY Inspire 7255e can print envelopes, but the settings must match perfectly to avoid cutting off text or flipping orientation.

Steps to Fix Envelope Printing Issues

1. Set Correct Envelope Size in Word

  • In Word:
    • Go to Mailings > Envelopes > Options.
    • Under Envelope Options, select Size: Custom and enter 5 x 7 inches.
    • Click OK.

2. Adjust Printer Settings

  • In the Print dialog:
    • Select your HP printer.
    • Click Printer Properties or Preferences.
    • Under Paper Size, choose Custom and set 5 x 7 inches.
    • Under Orientation, select Landscape or Portrait based on how the envelope feeds.

3. Load Envelope Correctly

  • Check the printer’s envelope guide:
    • For ENVY Inspire, envelopes usually load face up, flap on the left.
    • Align guides snugly to avoid skewing.

4. Disable Scaling

  • In Word’s print settings:
    • Set Scale to 100% or Actual Size.
    • Do NOT use “Fit to Page” or “Shrink to Fit.”

5. Test with One Envelope

  • Print a single envelope first.
  • If upside down, flip the envelope orientation in the tray and retry.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
