HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Functions fine otherwise. prints documents, beautiful test page, but won't scan to make a copy.  Everything turns out to be one, or several parallel lines.  Error code keeps coming up 00005FBB6.

What CURRENT models use the same cartridges, 951XL or similar in color?

Hi @VaughanBoleky,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 uses HP 950 and 951 ink cartridges. If you're looking for current models that use the same or similar cartridges (HP 951XL in color), here are a few options.

HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e

  • Uses HP 962 and HP 962XL ink cartridges, which are similar to the HP 951 series in terms of their professional-grade printing capabilities.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e

  • Uses HP 902 and HP 902XL cartridges, which are also part of the OfficeJet Pro line and offer similar high-yield options for color printing.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8035e

  • Uses HP 902 and HP 902XL cartridges as well, offering great color and black printing quality.

These models feature updated technologies and better overall performance but still offer comparable ink cartridge options to the ones your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 uses. When considering a replacement model, it’s worth checking the cost and availability of ink for newer models, as some might be more economical in the long term.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

thank you for your response. The problem is that I have a lot of the 951 series left (black, and color cartridges).  so the question becomes, if I purchase a new printer that utilizes the cartridges you referenced, the 961 series, can I use my existing 951 series in that newer printer?  I currently have a second 8620 model and plan to use that with my existing cartridges until it finally stops working. Then get a new printer altogether.

Hi @VaughanBoleky,

Thank you for your response,

The HP 951 cartridges are not compatible with printers that use the newer HP 961 series cartridges. The two cartridge types are designed for different printer models, so you will not be able to use your 951 cartridges in a printer that requires the 961 series.

Since you have a second HP OfficeJet 8620 and plan to use your existing 951 cartridges with it until it stops working, that seems like a good interim solution. When you're ready to purchase a new printer, you'll need to buy new cartridges that are compatible with the new model. If you're looking to minimize costs, it may be worth exploring printers that still use the 951 cartridges or checking for deals on compatible printer models.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
