HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.  Several times a day, there will be a 30 second to 5 minute delay between the time I send a command to print, and the time that the printer begins the print job.  We are an auto repair shop.  Most documents are single page invoices from QuickBooks, parts diagrams from our diagnostics software, or various pages printed from websites.  I may do 50-100 pages per day, and 10% of those will have a delay.  I can open the document queue window and see a listed waiting document, or perhaps several, and the status will say Printing, but it seems like it hasn't yet been sent to the printer.  I've tried selecting Pause, Resume, and Restart, but it will continue to sit there until something finally releases it to the printer.  If I try to Print additional copies in order to force things to move, they simply stack up in the queue.  If I put a different page into the printer to make a copy while the document is still waiting, it will make the copy without affecting the status of the waiting document.

I do not use the HP Smart app, and my printer is connected directly to the computer via USB cable.  I use the recommended barebones driver that I downloaded from HP that allows me to print and scan without having the printer connected to the Internet, and I have tried reinstalling.  I think the delay may be caused by something in the computer or the driver, but I can't pinpoint it.  Any ideas?

Hi @hawkeye357,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are experiencing a delay in printing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e All-In-One Printer, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to address the delay.

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. HP often releases updates to improve printer performance and address known issues. You can usually check for firmware updates through the printer's control panel or HP's official website.
  • Connection Issues: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If it's connected via USB, make sure the cable is securely connected. If it's a wireless printer, check your Wi-Fi connection.
  • Print Queue: Sometimes, print jobs can get stuck in the print queue, causing delays. Clear the print queue on your computer by canceling any pending print jobs and then resend the print job.
  • Driver Issues: Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause printing delays. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website.
  • Print Quality Settings: If you are printing high-quality documents or images, it may take longer to process and print. Consider adjusting the print quality settings in the printer properties to a lower quality if speed is more important than print quality for a specific job.
  • Paper Jams or Obstructions: Check the printer for any paper jams or obstructions in the paper path. These can cause delays as the printer tries to clear the issue.
  • Printer Memory: Large and complex print jobs may require more memory. If your printer has limited memory, it can slow down when processing such jobs. Consider adding more memory to your printer if possible.
  • Network Traffic: If the printer is on a network, heavy network traffic can cause delays in printing. Ensure that there are no bandwidth-intensive tasks running on the same network while you are trying to print.
  • Print Spooler Service (Windows): Restart the Print Spooler service on your Windows computer. Sometimes, this service can become unresponsive, causing printing delays. You can do this by opening the Run dialog (Win + R), typing "services.msc," finding the "Print Spooler" service, right-clicking it, and selecting "Restart."
  • Printer Settings: Check the printer settings for any special options that might be causing delays, such as two-sided printing, color options, or finishing options. Adjust these settings as needed.
  • Hardware Issues: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with your printer.

By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to identify and address the cause of the delay in printing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your reply Alden4.  I've been playing around with it for a week or so, and I found that if there's a delay in sending a print job to the printer, it will go through and print within 5 seconds if I restart the Print Spooler Service as you recommended trying.  Interesting.  This suggests it's something in Windows, or the basic printer software I installed.  I'll dig into that a bit more some time.  Meanwhile, as a workaround, I keep the Services window running but minimized.  If a print pauses, I can ram it through with a few mouse clicks.  I have also noticed that since I have been doing this, it happens much less frequently--just a couple times a day instead of 10.  Thanks for your help!
