Hi @DV12884,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw won’t boot and only shows a black screen after startup noises, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Unplug the printer from the power outlet.
  • Wait at least 2-3 minutes (rather than just 60 seconds) to ensure a complete discharge.
  • While unplugged, press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to fully drain any residual power.
  • Plug the printer back in and try turning it on.

Check Power Source:

  • Ensure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip, as these can sometimes cause power issues.
  • Try plugging the printer into a different wall outlet to rule out any issues with the power source.

Firmware Reset:

  • If the printer has a USB port, you might be able to perform a firmware update using a USB drive. This can sometimes help with boot issues.
  • Download the latest firmware update for your printer model from the HP support website, save it on a USB, and follow the HP instructions for a firmware update using a USB drive. (Note: This step may be tricky if the screen stays black, but the printer may still recognize the update via USB.)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
