Hi I have new laserjet pro Pro 4302 and from the first time using it  Paper loaded in tray 2 and it will print once from my MacBook pro then gives out of paper error. I have to open draw and close it to continue. On my wife's iPad pro it will only print from tray 1. We don't want to use tray 1, just tray 1

Hi @Bonaire1001

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4302 is displaying an "Out of Paper" error for tray 2 even when it's loaded with paper, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Paper Loading

  • Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in tray 2. Ensure the paper guides are snug against the edges of the paper stack without bending it.

2. Verify Paper Type and Size

  • Ensure that the paper type and size settings in the printer's control panel match the actual paper loaded in tray 2. If the printer expects a different type or size, it may trigger the error.

3. Inspect Tray Mechanism

  • Check the paper tray mechanism for any obstructions or debris that might be affecting the sensor. Ensure that the tray is seated properly in the printer.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Power off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset any temporary errors.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Check the HP website for any available updates.

6. Change Default Tray Settings

  • On your MacBook Pro, go to the print settings when you print a document:
    • Select the printer and click on "Printer Properties" or "Print Settings."
    • Choose "Tray 2" as the default tray. Make sure to apply this setting.

7. Use HP Smart App

  • If you haven't already, download the HP Smart app on your devices. It can help manage printer settings and ensure that the correct tray is selected.

8. Check iPad Printing Settings

  • On your wife's iPad, make sure to select the correct tray in the print options when printing. This can sometimes default to tray 1.

9. Test with Different Paper

  • Try using a different type or brand of paper to rule out any compatibility issues with the current paper.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your reply. But I have already tried everything you have suggested and still the same issue. The only thing I can't do is to specify try 2 in the print instructions there is no where to do that on my MacBook
