We have an M555 at our office that loses its hostname every time it's powered off. After a firmware update didn't help, HP Support ran through some options with us, none of which helped. They finally sent us a new formatter/network board to swap.

It still does this after the swap. I did have to reuse the TPM and Multi Media expansion cards from the original board. I don't figure those area  likely cause. The display and control board are still original but I'd be surprised if either holds the network config.

@TechSpecs44, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Color Laserjet M555.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your HP Color LaserJet M555. It sounds like a complex issue since replacing the formatter/network board didn't resolve the hostname problem. Here are a few additional steps and considerations that may help:

  1. Check Firmware Compatibility: Ensure that the firmware on the new formatter board is updated and compatible with the rest of your device's components.

  2. TPM and Multi Media Expansion Cards: While it's less likely these are causing the issue, you might want to ensure they're properly seated and compatible with the new board. It might also be worthwhile to try running the printer without these cards temporarily, just to rule them out as potential causes.

  3. Network Settings: Explore the network settings on your printer. Sometimes, issues can be resolved by changing from DNS to a static IP setup, which may prevent the hostname from resetting.

  4. Factory Reset: If you haven’t already tried, performing a complete factory reset could help. This can clear any settings that might be conflicting during startup. Remember to backup any important settings prior to doing this.

  5. Display and Control Board: While seemingly less likely, if the issue persists, testing the printer with a new display and control board could be a next step if other solutions don't work.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
