Hi @Sleepy18

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m really sorry your HP DeskJet 4200 series printer is struggling to stay connected to Wi-Fi. You’ve done the right thing by noticing the pattern and reaching out.

Let’s walk through a clean recovery to stabilize the connection and restore reliable printing.

Step-by-Step: Fix Wi-Fi Connection Issues on HP DeskJet 4200 Series

1. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

This clears any saved Wi-Fi profiles and puts the printer into setup mode.

  • Turn on the printer and wait until it’s idle.
  • Press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
  • The blue wireless light should start blinking—this means it’s ready to connect.

2. Reconnect Using the HP App

  1. Open the HP App on your Windows 11 PC or mobile device.
  2. Tap Add Printer or Set Up a New Printer.
  3. The app should detect your printer as “Setup”.
  4. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password carefully.
  5. Wait for the blue light to turn solid—this confirms connection.

Make sure your PC or phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.

3. Assign a Static IP Address (Optional but Helpful)

This prevents the printer from losing its identity on the network.

  • Open the HP App > Tap your printer > Advanced Settings.
  • Go to Network > IPv4 Configuration.
  • Change from DHCP to Manual.
  • Enter a static IP (e.g., 192.168.1.250), subnet mask (255.255.255.0), and gateway (your router’s IP, e.g., 192.168.1.1).
  • Save and restart the printer.

4. Update Printer Firmware

Firmware updates often improve Wi-Fi stability and performance.

5. Check Router Settings

  • Ensure 2.4GHz band is enabled (Your printers do not support 5GHz).
  • Disable MAC address filtering or add the printer’s MAC address to the allowed list.
  • Avoid using Wi-Fi channels 12 or 13—stick to 1–11.

Let me know how the printer responds after resetting and reconnecting. You’ve done everything right—and I’ll help you get back to smooth, reliable printing.
