Hi @MARK6557,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Deskjet 1050 J410 series printer is experiencing a communication or software issue that's affecting its printing functionality. Since you've already tried most obvious solutions but not addressed the driver setup, here are steps to diagnose and resolve the issue:

1. Check the Basics

  • Cable Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer. Try a different USB port or cable if possible.
  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Check for Error Codes

  • If a fault message appears, note any specific error codes or messages. These can provide clues about the issue.

3. Run the Printer Troubleshooter (Windows)

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  3. Find Printer, and click Run.
  4. Follow the prompts to resolve detected issues.

4. Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. Uninstall the Current Driver:
    • Press Windows + R, type control, and hit Enter to open the Control Panel.
    • Navigate to Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners.
    • Right-click your HP Deskjet 1050 and select Remove device.
  2. Download the Latest Driver:
    • Visit HP's official support page.
    • Search for "HP Deskjet 1050 J410 series" and download the latest driver for your operating system.
  3. Install the Driver:
    • Run the downloaded file and follow the installation steps.
  4. Add the Printer:
    • Go back to Printers & Scanners, click Add a printer or scanner, and let Windows detect the printer.

5. Check the Printer Queue

  • Clear any stuck print jobs:
    1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
    2. Right-click your printer and select See what's printing.
    3. Cancel all pending jobs.

6. Perform a Printer Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  2. Wait 2-3 minutes.
  3. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

7. Test Printing from a Different Device

  • Connect the printer to another computer and try printing. If it works, the issue is likely software-related on the original computer.

8. Update or Reset Printer Firmware

  1. Visit HP's support page for firmware updates.
  2. Download and install the firmware update utility for your printer, if available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
