Hi @Luckylalla,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your HP DeskJet 2540 is printing with black lines through the text, which can be caused by a few issues even after resetting, reinstalling, recalibrating, and cleaning the printhead. Here are some additional troubleshooting steps to consider.

Check Ink Cartridges:

  • Ensure the ink cartridges are properly installed and not empty. Sometimes, even if the cartridges seem full, they might still be faulty or clogged.
  • Try replacing the black ink cartridge to see if that resolves the issue.

Check for Clogs in the Printhead:

  • You may have already cleaned the printhead, but it’s worth performing a more thorough cleaning. If your printer allows, you can manually remove the printhead and clean it with a lint-free cloth and warm water (be sure it's completely dry before reinserting it).

Check Paper Quality:

  • Sometimes, poor-quality paper can cause streaking and lines, especially if it's too rough or has an issue with its coating. Try using high-quality printer paper and see if the problem persists.

Print a Test Page or Diagnostic Report:

  • Print a test page from the printer’s control panel (if available) or through the printer software on your computer. This can help identify whether the issue is with the printer or the software.

Align the Printhead Again:

  • Even though you’ve recalibrated the printer, try running the printhead alignment again to ensure that everything is properly aligned.

Check for Driver Issues:

  • Even after updates, there may be a driver issue. Try completely uninstalling the printer drivers and reinstalling them from the HP website. It may also help to use the generic Windows drivers for testing.

Firmware Update:

  • Check if there’s a firmware update available for the printer. Sometimes, firmware updates fix bugs related to printing issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Alden4.

Thank you for your help.

Sadly none of the remedies have shown any improvement.

I have tried different firmwares, drivers.

Reinstall countless times. Cleaned the cartridges (even tried completely new ink).

I have come to the conclusion that the printer is dead and will replace it asap.

Thank you again for trying.

Regards.
