So I am trying to do two-sided printing on my HP DeskJet 2652, but the two sides aren't coming out aligned.  One side prints higher than the other.  How can I adjust my settings to fix this?

Hi @JoeSaviano,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP DeskJet 2652 prints double-sided pages that don’t align properly, especially when one side prints higher than the other. Let’s walk through how to fix this.

The HP DeskJet 2652 supports manual duplex printing, meaning:

  • You print one side first
  • Then manually flip and reinsert the paper

If the paper isn’t flipped or aligned correctly, the second side may print misaligned vertically.

How to Fix Two-Sided Print Alignment

1. Use the Correct Flip Setting

When printing:

  • Go to Print > Printer Properties > Layout or Finishing tab
  • Look for “Print on Both Sides” or “Manual Duplex”
  • Choose:
    • Flip on Long Edge (for portrait documents)
    • Flip on Short Edge (for landscape documents)

Choosing the wrong flip edge can cause vertical misalignment.

2. Align Paper Carefully When Flipping

  • After the first side prints, wait for the ink to dry
  • Flip the paper exactly as prompted (usually face up or down)
  • Insert the paper flush and centered in the tray

3. Adjust Margins in Your Document

  • Ensure both sides have equal top margins
  • Avoid using “mirror margins” unless needed
  • Use Print Preview to check alignment before printing

4. Use HP Smart App for Better Control

  • Open HP Smart on Windows
  • Go to Print > Advanced Settings
  • Choose Manual Duplex and follow the prompts carefully

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
