Hello,

 

My grandfather's printer, an HP Deskjet 2640 is only printing black pages. Whenever we input a printing task, the printer just starts printing out fully black pages and emptying out the black cartridge.

 

He has always used original HP cartridges in this printer, never third-party ones. We tried switching out the cartridge but to no avail. I've tried looking online on this forum and other forums but I haven't found anything, so this is kind of my last resort.

 

Things we've tried:

  • Switching out the cartridge for a new one
  • Rebooting the computer and printer
  • Switching from wireless to a wired connection
  • Reinstalling the printer drivers
  • Trying out different file formats and software (Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, plain images)
  • Using the HP software to clean the printer

The only thing we haven't tried is calling HP support, but I wanted to see if we can find an answer here first. Thank you in advance!

 

PS, some more details:

Printer: Deskjet 2640

OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Region: Netherlands, Europe

Firmware version: Stock firmware that came with the printer

Error messages: None, the printer just prints all black pages

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the  "printing black pages" issue. 

 

To better assist you- Does the copy come out black as well?

 

 Let's try a power reset on the printer

Reset the product

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  1. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  4. Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  5. Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
