I really need some help, one day it was working printing postage labels from my phone direct to the printer the next day it stopped working it’s showing it’s in error state I have changed both cartridges which are 305XL IN colour & black it’s flashing on the colour. It won’t let me do an align or clean because of the Error state. The solid blue WiFi light is on so it’s nothing to do with that.  It’s so frustrating as the printer isn’t that old but I’ve been informed it’s out of warranty

Hi @stricky21

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I hear your frustration—especially when a printer suddenly stops working despite everything seeming fine. Since your HP DeskJet 2700e is stuck in an error state, and the color cartridge light is flashing, here are some steps to troubleshoot:

Step 1: Check Ink Cartridge Installation

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Open the cartridge access door and remove both cartridges.
  3. Inspect the contacts—make sure there’s no dust or ink residue.
  4. Reinsert the cartridges firmly and close the door.
  5. Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

Step 2: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug it from the power source for 60 seconds.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds while unplugged.
  4. Plug it back in, turn it on, and check if the error clears.

Step 3: Run HP Printer Diagnostics

HP provides a troubleshooting tool for error states:

Step 4: Try a Printer Firmware Update

  1. Open HP Smart on your phone or PC.
  2. Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings.
  3. Check for Firmware Updates and install if available.

Step 5: Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

  1. Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons for 10 seconds.
  2. The printer should restart and reset to default settings.
  3. Reconnect it to Wi-Fi and check if the error is resolved.
