I have reinstalled a new ink cartridge and now my printer will not print anything. The light is flashing and it has an error message. Would appreciate any help on how to fix this, thanks.

Hi @pcroskell,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP DeskJet 2700e printer refuses to work right after installing a new cartridge, especially when you need to get things printed quickly. Let’s troubleshoot this step by step:

Common Causes

  • Cartridge not seated properly
  • Cartridge not compatible or not genuine HP
  • Protective tape is still on the cartridge contacts
  • The printer needs a reset or alignment

Step 1: Check Cartridge Compatibility

Make sure the cartridge is a genuine HP and compatible with the HP DeskJet 2710e. This model uses HP 305 or HP 305XL cartridges (depending on region).

Step 2: Remove and Reseat Cartridges

  1. Turn the printer ON.
  2. Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop moving.
  3. Remove the cartridges and inspect for protective tape; remove it if present.
  4. Clean the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  5. Reinsert cartridges until you feel a firm click.

Step 3: Reset the Printer

  • With the printer ON, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Unplug from the wall outlet and wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug back in and power ON.

Step 4: Check Error Lights

If the Attention light or Ink light is flashing, it usually means:

Step 5: Run HP App Diagnostic

Download the HP app on your PC or mobile and run the diagnostic tool.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
