HP Deskjet 3520 - Black is not printing well. All other colors are printing fine. Recently installed a black cartridge that had been sitting around awhile. I tried the printer routine to "clean ink cartridges", did nothing. I used isopropyl alcohol (per a YouTube video) to clean the print head, did nothing.

The questions:

- Is there a separate print head for each color?

- If I purchased a black cartridge do I run the risk of it not working as well?

- Might the problem be just a bad ink cartridge?

@JMW123 It looks like you've done everything that could possibly resolve the issue, and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

 

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
