I have tried all the solutions that I came across on the internet for this issue but nothing works, I have reset the printer several times, I have checked printer settings multiple times and it is set to A4 paper and the paper I put in the tray is also A4 but the issue persists and whenever I try to print anything "E1" error comes up and printer cannot print anything, the only time it can print anything is when I photocopy a document manually by placing a document on the scanner and pressing the photocopy button, but even that is messed up and the size of the document photocopied is the same size as a letter.

Hi @RoyalLondon ,

Thank you for your responses

I understand you are getting the "E1" error on HP Deskjet printers typically indicates a paper mismatch error, where the paper size settings in the printer software do not match the paper size loaded in the tray. Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Check Paper Size Settings in Printer Software:

  • Go to your computer's Control Panel and navigate to Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP Deskjet 4100 series printer and select Printing Preferences.
  • Ensure that the paper size is set to A4.

Check Printer Settings in the Print Dialog Box:

  • When you print a document, ensure the print dialog box shows A4 as the selected paper size.

Adjust Paper Size Settings in HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Go to Printer Settings and ensure that the paper size is set to A4.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Sometimes, a firmware update can resolve issues. Check HP's website for any available firmware updates for your printer model and follow the instructions to update.

Clean the Rollers and Check for Paper Jams:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the paper tray and remove any jammed paper.
  • Clean the paper rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Allow the rollers to dry completely before closing the tray and turning on the printer.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn on the printer.
  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the powe r cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Check for Driver Updates:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. Visit the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.

Set Printer Default Settings:

  • Go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel.
  • Right-click on your HP printer and select Set as Default Printer.
  • Right-click again and select Printer Properties.
  • Go to the Advanced tab and select Printing Defaults. Ensure the paper size is set to A4.

Try a Different Application:

  • Sometimes the issue could be specific to the application you are printing from. Try printing from a different application or a PDF viewer to see if the issue persists.
