I bought the HP Deskjet Pro 6830 second hand, because I am a broke student. Replaced all ink cartridges with new ones that are compatible with it. Here’s the problem, the printer only prints blue and black. I have tried all 3 levels of Printhead cleaning and aligning. I really need help and I am desperate. I am trying to make a little money on the side and it requires this printer. I really hope someone can help me.

@Imintroublehelp, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Deskjet Pro 6830!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Deskjet Pro 6830 might have a clogged printhead or an issue with ink flow. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:

Check if the Ink Cartridges Are Properly Installed

  • Ensure that all cartridges are properly seated.
  • Double-check that you're using genuine or high-quality compatible cartridges.

Run a Nozzle Test Print

  • On the printer’s menu, go to Settings > Tools > Print Quality Report.
  • This will show you if the printer is attempting to print all colors.

Manually Clean the Printhead

If automatic cleaning didn’t work, try a manual cleaning:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Remove the ink cartridges.
  3. Locate the printhead (where the cartridges sit).
  4. Take a lint-free cloth and dampen it with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  5. Gently wipe the printhead nozzles to remove any dried ink.
  6. Let it dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

Check Ink Flow

  • Sometimes, air bubbles or dried ink can block the ink flow. Try removing and reinserting the ink cartridges.
  • If you have refilled cartridges, the ink ports might be clogged or not properly vented.

Perform a Firmware Update

  • Outdated firmware can sometimes cause ink issues.
  • Check HP’s website for any firmware updates and install them.

Try a Different Print Mode

  • Change the print quality in Printer Preferences (set it to "Best" or "High").
  • Try printing a document with different color gradients.

Reset the Printer

  • Unplug the printer for 5-10 minutes, then plug it back in.

Let me know how it goes!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
