Replaced the black cartridge a few days ago and it worked fine. Yesterday got an error message "Ink Cartridge(s) Problem" & "The following cartridge(s) must be replaced." and just a picture that looks like a bow tie below that. I know the colour cartridge was OK so just black one replaced and it initially worked. Any ideas how to get over this error? I can't even use the device as a scanner because of this. I have unplugged it for 30+ seconds but that does not help. HP Envy 4500

Hi @Chase23,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out.

You mentioned that after replacing the black cartridge in your HP Envy 4500, it worked for a short time but now shows an “Ink Cartridge(s) Problem” message with a bowtie-like symbol, preventing you from printing or even scanning.

Please try these steps to resolve the issue:

Remove and reinsert the cartridges – With the printer powered on, open the cartridge access door, take out both the black and color cartridges, check for any protective tape or debris, and firmly reseat them.

Clean the electrical contacts – Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and the matching contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Let them dry fully before reinserting.

Restart the printer – Unplug the printer from power, wait at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

Update the printer firmware – Ensure your printer has the latest firmware by checking updates from the HP Smart app or HP’s support site.

Try another cartridge – If the error persists, the black cartridge may be faulty. Replace it with another genuine HP 61/301/650 cartridge (depending on your region).

I hope this helps.
