HP Envy 5055 had an error code that’s now not visible.  When I reboot the printer and connect to wi-fi all it shows in the menu screen is a question mark (?). When I try to click on the home button, it reverts to the “?”. I’ve tried all the suggestions that the chat-bot offered.  Nothing has worked.  I’m out of warranty.  Can anyone out there please help me? Maybe you have had the same problem at some point?  Is the printer fried??? Thanks to you anyone offering suggestions, especially if they work 🙂

@pferg, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating situation, and I can understand why you'd be worried that your printer may be "fried." The good news is that there might be a few things we can try to troubleshoot this, even if the error code isn’t visible anymore.

Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide that might help:

Power Cycle

Unplug the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall socket.

Wait for 1-2 minutes: Let the printer completely power down.

Plug it back in: Plug the printer back in, and turn it on.

This often clears out minor software glitches.

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Run HP Smart:

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
