HP ENVY 5640 won't acknowledge new installed black ink cartridge

HP Recommended
HP ENVY 5640

When I correctly installed a 62 black ink cartridge I got a ' Remove and reinstall the indicated ink cartridge, making sure it is correctly installed, and then touch ok". I tried a few times and with another new cartridge and the same thing happened. I have unplugged and restarted the printer. I have gently cleaned the cartridge and its housing chute. I followed an online video and got a 42 report which says Current error: Pen in right chute has error (55). The HP online customer support suggested updating the printer firmware and when I tried to follow the HP instructions, they didn't match the messages I was getting on the printer screen. I asked to speak to a human at HP but I am out of warranty and couldn't find out if that would mean paying to speak to someone abroad - expensive or in my country, the UK so didn't proceed. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the HP support community.

If you have tried all the steps mentioned in this HP document:- Click here

And if the issue still persists, this could be a hardware issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
