HP ENVY 7830
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My 7830 does not recognise my black ink cartridge as being inserted properly any more and I don't know why.  I turned the printer on the other day and the message "Remove and reinstall the indicated (black) cartridge, making sure it is correctly installed." came up.  I had not replaced the cartridge and had been happily printing from it the day before.  Taking out and re-inserting the cartridge multiple times, along with restarting and resetting the printer all have not cured the fault.  I do not have a spare black cartridge to try, and am reluctant to buy another one on the chance that it does not solve the problem.   I have cleaned up the (still half full) cartridge and electrical connections on the printer, all to no avail.

Unfortunately, the printer is now out of warranty so a self-fix is neccessary, unless it is knackered and I need to buy a new printer.  I'll be mightily annoyed if that is the case, as it is only a couple of years old and has been great up until this point.

Has anyone else had this problem and managed to cure it?

Thanks all

Hi @twooo,

If you have already performed the steps from the document Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps!
