HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Sometime in April 2024 my HP Envy 4520 quit printing color. It has ink. I am subscribed to HP instant ink.
I have uninstalled and re-intalled app and printer multiple times.
I have run the HP Scan Doctor.

Everything continues to print in monochrome.

1) There is no choice for color in the Windows Settings Printer Preferences anywhere.

2) Every time I try to change the HP Smart app settings for Color, under More Settings, it immediately changes it back to monochrome. It will NOT save the Color setting.

Please, somebody, help me fix this problem! I see that it has been around for quite a while...
Do I really have to go buy a new printer?

I understand that you are having issues with printing in color.

 

Try updating the firmware. Click here to find out about your current OS. If you do not find the firmware, try using Windows 10 and see if that helps.

Sadly those links did not help. My printer says there are no firmware updates available. i did install the July 2024 software, but no change. It refuses to save the Color setting under More Settings. I should also say that I have tried this software on 2 completely different Windows 11 laptops - one a LG Gram and one a Samsung. It doesn't work with either one.
I went and bought a brand new HP 7255e printer. Because I have spent too much time on this problem and I need something that prints color now.

I am very annoyed, as a  long time HP printer user, that some software update obsoleted an important function of my printer. And obviously I am not the only person to which this has happened.

have! I have a 5100 Smart Tank! 
so far it’s been a waste of money and time.
