My HP Envy 5055 printer is not fully printing out words... Every other line the words are cut in half and not readable. How do I fix?
I have cleaned the cartridge 4 times and aligned. The current updates are already installed. It seems like once I changed my subscription, it has been doing this

Hi @Journee1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Your HP Envy 5055 cutting off words every other line usually points to printhead or ink flow issues, even if you’ve cleaned and aligned multiple times. Changing your subscription (Instant Ink) shouldn’t cause this directly, but it might coincide with cartridge changes or firmware updates. Here’s how to fix it:
Step 1: Check Ink Levels
- Make sure both black and color cartridges have sufficient ink.
- Low ink can cause partial printing even if the printer doesn’t show an error.
Step 2: Deep Clean Printhead
- On the printer’s control panel:
- Setup → Printer Maintenance → Clean Printhead → Level 2 or Deep Clean.
- Repeat twice if needed. This clears stubborn clogs that normal cleaning misses.
Step 3: Print Diagnostic Page
- Setup → Printer Maintenance → Print Quality Report.
- Look for missing lines or streaks in the test pattern.
- If gaps appear, the printhead still has blockages.
Step 4: Check Paper Settings
- In your print dialog:
- Paper Type: Match the actual paper (Plain, Photo, etc.).
- Incorrect settings can cause ink misplacement.
Step 5: Update Firmware & HP App
- Confirm firmware is current (you said yes).
- Update HP app and printer drivers: 👉 HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer | HP® Support
Step 6: Cartridge Issue
- If you recently switched Instant Ink cartridges:
- Remove and reseat them.
- Clean the gold contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- If the issue persists, try another set of cartridges (even if genuine).

I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
