HP Envy 5530 Issue

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Envy 5530 printer had been in a storage unit for just over 2yrs until recently moving! The black and tricolor cartridges that were previously used before the move into storage were accidentally left inside the printer all that time and just noticed today as I was finally setting it up again. Printer setup fine! But test page failed. Had other backup cartridges in their original packaging (also had been in storage). Those failed too. Now the printer is telling me that these cartridges which are the 61XL are invalid cartridges but they are correct. I have the original HP printer card proving that I used the correct cartridges. Is it possible that leaving the old cartridges inside messed it up? Is there anything else I can try? Will I have to buy a new printer?
