Almost every time I shut the computer down, on restart the computer is offline. Most times I can get it back online by disconnecting the power plug counting to 10 and reconnecting, after which  the printer goes through a start up dance then reports that it is online. However, sometimes it won't get ack online this way so I have to go through the laborious process of adding the printer all over again. I monitor what the printer is doing through the HP  Smart app.

 

Plenty of others have reported this fault but because the first to report a problem decided that has printer only went offline when it was updating its software HP seem to have concluded this problem is solved. If it's caused by software updating, my printer must be updating its software for hours every day and the same for several other customers with Envy 6000 series printers. The problem is not solved.

True - "Offline" is a common problem.  The reasons for the issue are varied, though, so what solves the problem for one user might not apply to another.  Believing your problems are not solved because others suffer a similar issue makes sense -- we look for commonality and reasons why things that fail for someone else are also failing for us.

 

What?

 

Underlying causes frequently include problems that are a result of how the printer is connected to the network -- lack of a static / manual IP address, for example, might allow the printer to disconnect and then not be able to find it's way back to the router / network.

 

Weak Wi-Fi is common -- too much distance, obstacles, old, outdated, a poorly configured router, or even router placement are among the underlying causes of poor Wireless performance.

 

Wireless Networks that do not support a separation of 2.4GHz and 5GHz might prove challenging for printers that want (need) to connect and stay connected to one frequency or the other.  Networks that switch frequencies suddenly (possibly) due to traffic load on the router, might knock a printer off the network.

 

In general, Offline is a condition that can be fixed.

 

In particular, you will need to find the solution that fits your situation.

 

If you have not done so, 

Consider / Try one or more of the following ---

 

Offline Condition

 

Although the printer appears to be switched on, it does not communicate with other devices on your network.

 

What you do to correct the issue depends on the underlying cause.

Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network

If your printer is assigned a manual / static IP address and it is known that it should be able to find its way back onto the network – Reset the Printer.

What else?

 

Should you need stability but have no need of having the printer connected to the Internet (via Web Services), consider using Wi-Fi Direct.
