I only print a couple of times a week and every time I try to print the printer is offline. Turning the printer power off and back on usually fixes this but should I have to do this every time? I have only had this printer for a few weeks.

@NannyNancy, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your HP Envy 6100e printer goes offline every time you try to print. Since you mentioned it usually works after powering off and on, this sounds like a connectivity or sleep mode issue. Let’s walk through a few steps to help resolve this permanently:

Set a Static IP Address

This prevents your printer from getting a new IP address each time it reconnects to Wi-Fi.

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer.
  • Note the current IP address.
  • Go to your router settings (usually via browser at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and assign a static IP to your printer’s MAC address.
  • On the printer, go to Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > IP Settings, and manually enter the static IP.

Disable Sleep Mode (Auto-Off)

Sleep mode can cause the printer to appear offline.

  • Open the HP Smart App.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Preferences > Energy Settings.
  • Disable Auto-Off or set it to a longer duration.

Use HP Smart App for Printing

HP Smart maintains a better connection with your printer.

  • Download: HP Smart
  • Add your printer and try printing from the app.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues.

  • In HP Smart, go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates.
  • Install any available updates.

Reinstall Printer Drivers (Windows)

If you're using Windows, reinstalling the driver can help.

  • Remove the printer from Devices and Printers.
  • Download and install the Full Feature Software from HP: Official HP® Support

Additional Tips

  • Ensure your printer and PC are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Avoid using VPNs while printing.
  • If using USB, try a different port or cable.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
