Hi @Noscreenname,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Check printer for errors" message on your HP Envy 6400 printer indicates that there is an issue preventing the printer from functioning correctly. It could be related to hardware, software, or consumables. Here's how to troubleshoot.

Check for Paper Jams

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams in the input tray, output tray, or inside the printer.
  • Remove any stuck paper carefully.

Inspect Ink Cartridges

  • Open the printer's ink cartridge access door.
  • Ensure the cartridges are properly seated.
  • Check for low or empty ink levels and replace cartridges if necessary.

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for 2-3 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on to reset.

Run a Printer Diagnostic

  • Use the HP Smart app or printer software on your computer to check for any error codes or diagnostic tools.
  • Look for firmware updates or suggested fixes.

Network Connection

  • If you're printing wirelessly, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your device.
  • Restart your router if the connection is unstable.

Error Messages or Lights

  • Observe the printer's control panel or any blinking lights.
  • Refer to your printer manual for specific error code meanings.

Test Printing

  • Try printing a test page directly from the printer menu to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I bought a Canon and have moved the HP to the recycle bin. I wish I’d have done so a couple years ago. It was even a pain in the neck to get it configured for recycle / sell status.
