My HP Envy 7858 Freezes at the 1st Dot on Startup.  I have tried unplugging, etc. but none of that works.  I've read where others have had this issue in the past and may have performed a hard restart to solve the problem.  I would like to receive instructions on how to do that.  I cannot access a screen (because it is stuck) so am hoping the hard restart can be accomplished on the machine itself.

Hi @tzbford987,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Envy 7858 printer is experiencing a startup issue where it freezes at the first dot during boot-up. This could be due to a variety of reasons, including hardware or software issues. Let's explore some troubleshooting steps to try to resolve the problem:c

Hard Reboot (Power Cycle): You've already tried unplugging the printer and plugging it back in, which is a good step. To perform a hard reboot, follow these steps:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes to allow any residual power to drain from the printer.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • See if the printer starts up properly now.

Check for Firmware Updates: Although you mentioned there haven't been any recent software updates, it's still worth checking if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. You can usually find this information on the HP support website. Updating the firmware might resolve compatibility issues or bugs that could be causing the startup problem.  Software and Drivers for HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-in-One Printer

Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions inside the printer, such as paper jams or foreign objects. Sometimes, even small pieces of debris can cause issues with the printer's startup sequence.

I hope this helps.
