I purchased this HP envy 5212 printer/scanner as a present for my in-laws. They had it setup with all the software installed. I downloaded the full driver set from the hp support website and confirmed that everything was working properly. They unplugged the printer then later plugged it back in. After plugging it back in, it no longer loads past 2 dots at the initializing step before it actually turns on.
I have tried all the suggestions I could find online. While the printer is powered on, but still initializing, if you open the ink cartridge area, the cartridges don't move. Pressing the power button does nothing. Unplugging the power and plugging it into the wall does nothing. I took the printer home with me to try it at my house, it still has the same issue. I tried to figure out how to reset the printer other ways by holding the power button and other buttons in several different configurations while plugging it back in, but nothing worked. I opened up the printer and manually moved the ink cartridges to the middle and unplugged a few of the controller connections and plugged them back in. Plugged the printer back in again and it is still stuck a the 2 dots at the initialization phase. If you leave it alone for hours and come back, it'll still be at the initialization phase with 2 dots.
I saw that there may be a secret way to do a super NVRAM reset which seems to correct this issue, but I haven't been able to find instructions to do a NVRAM reset for the HP Envy Officejet 5212.
