Operating System: Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

My printer HP4520 Envy has blank blue screen and doesn't work. What should I do? I tried to unplug it and press power button several times as you recommend. It doesn't help.

I understand your HP Envy 4520 printer is showing a blank blue screen and is unresponsive, even after unplugging and performing a power drain. Let’s go through some steps to troubleshoot this issue.

 

Perform a Hard Reset (Power Cycle)

Unplug the printer from the wall outlet.

Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.

While still unplugged, wait 5–10 minutes.

Plug it back in and press the Power button once to turn it on.

Check for Display/Hardware Issues

Inspect the screen for any cracks or physical damage.

Listen for unusual sounds (clicking, beeping) when powering on — these can indicate a hardware fault.

Try a Different Power Outlet

Plug the printer into a different wall outlet, avoiding surge protectors or extension cords, in case of power inconsistencies.

Disconnect All Peripherals

Remove any USB drives, memory cards, or other connected devices.

Power the printer on without anything attached.

Reset the Printer via Button Combination

Some Envy models support a reset sequence:

Press and hold Power + Cancel for 10–15 seconds until the printer attempts to restart.

Release the buttons and wait for lights or activity.

Check for Firmware Recovery

If the screen remains blank, it’s possible the firmware is corrupted.

HP provides firmware recovery tools for certain models, usually run from a Windows PC via USB.
