Hello,

I'm new here.

I have HP Laserjet 3055. When I turn it on, it shows this:

When I try to photocopy a page, it doesn't do this.
Can I please ask how I can fix this problem?

Thanks.

Hello,

The display shows “HDF door is open,” which means the hinged door for the toner cartridge area (also called the top cover or front door) is not being detected as closed. Even if it looks closed, this indicates that the printer’s door sensor switch is not being engaged. The LaserJet 3055 will not copy or print until that switch is properly activated.

Step-by-step troubleshooting

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it.

  2. Open the top cover where the toner cartridge sits.

  3. Remove the toner cartridge carefully.

  4. Look along the right-hand side near the hinge area. You should see a small plastic lever or pin that presses a microswitch when the door closes.

    • If it is broken, loose, or missing, that is the cause of the message.

    • If it appears intact, move it manually — you should hear or feel a faint click, which indicates the switch is engaging.

  5. Reinsert the toner cartridge and close the top cover firmly. Listen for that same click when closing.

  6. Power on the printer and check if the message clears.

Technical explanation

The door sensor ensures the cartridge compartment is closed before the fuser heats and the engine starts operating. Over time, the hinge or latch may weaken, or the plastic sensor arm can shift slightly out of alignment. This results in a persistent “door open” message even when the door appears closed.

If the issue remains

  • While the printer is on, gently press down on the right front corner of the top door. If the message clears temporarily, the door hinge or switch alignment is off.

  • This usually requires a door switch assembly replacement. That part is chassis-mounted and not user-serviceable.

If the sensor or hinge is confirmed defective, the only available option is depot repair (ship to HP’s repair center).
