I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 6978. I tried to print and got the following error message: There is a problem with the printhead. 0xc19a0024

Anyone have an idea what that problem is and, more importantly, how to fix it?

I love my HP OfficeJet and it has served me well up to now. I'd hate to lose it 😞

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi @Madeline--100,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error 0xc19a0024 on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 typically indicates an issue with the printhead, often related to the ink system. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn the printer off.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the power outlet.
  • Wait about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and power outlet.
  • Turn the printer back on. This can sometimes clear the error.

Check the Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the cartridge access door and ensure the ink cartridges are properly installed.
  • Check for any ink cartridges that are low on ink, and replace them if necessary.
  • Make sure the ink cartridges are genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can cause issues.

Clean the Printhead:

  • Use the printer's built-in tool to clean the printhead. You can usually find this option in the printer's maintenance/settings menu.
  • If the built-in cleaning doesn't work, you may need to manually clean the printhead. Remove the printhead and gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

Check for Firmware Updates:

Reinstall the Printhead:

  • Carefully remove the printhead and reinstall it to ensure it's correctly seated. This can sometimes resolve communication issues between the printhead and the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
