Trying to print a 4"x6" photo. I'm placing the glossy paper in Tray 2. I've tried multiple times to print, and only a small fraction of the photo prints. I'm using up a lot of ink and paper stock. I'm also getting black ink lines on the back of the paper.Back of photo paperBack of photo paperFront only prints some hair.Front only prints some hair.

Hi @Julie119

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the printing issue.

To better assist you -

1.) What's the application that you are trying to print from?

2.) Are you experiencing this issue while making a copy as well?

3.) Have you tried printing on a different type of paper or from a different device?

While you respond to that, I'd suggest you update your Mac-book using these steps - How to update the software on your Mac

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

I'd also suggest you check the tray 2 and printing settings on your Mac.

For instructions to load tray 2, please refer to page# 33 to 36 from here. For print settings, refer to step# 2 from here.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for responding. I am trying to print from my iMac Photos app. It prints to an 8 ½ x 11 sheet in Tray 1 with no problem. I have the most updated drivers for MacOS, Photos and the printer. I've also tried printing a 4x6 from my iPhone X with the same problem. I also tried putting the 4x6 paper in Tray 1 just to see what happened, but I got the same result. I've used so much ink at this point, I'm quite upset.  I'm certain it's the printer, but I don't know the remedy.

Have you tried printing on a different type of photo paper?

Please refer to this document for steps to print photos - HP Printers - How to Print Photos (Mac)

Also, try the steps mentioned here

Let me know.

I was able to print the photo successfully from the main tray on 8 ½ x 11 plain paper. The article you mentioned instructs you to place your coated photo paper in the main tray. I've tried that as well as the upper, auxiliary tray, but neither works. Since my printer is within warranty, is there a troubleshooting phone number I can call?
