Hi @RickT5044,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer's paper jam error!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 is continuously showing a paper jam during maintenance even after you clear it, here are some steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

1. Check for Paper Obstructions

Ensure that there are no small pieces of paper or debris stuck inside the printer, even after you've cleared the paper jam.

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source to avoid any electrical shock or injury.
  2. Open the printer's paper tray and the rear access panel (if your printer has one). Carefully remove any jammed paper, paying close attention to any small torn pieces that might be stuck.
  3. Inspect the rollers (the rubber wheels that pull the paper through) for any paper fragments or debris. Gently wipe them with a lint-free cloth moistened with a little water or isopropyl alcohol to remove dust and paper residue.
  4. Check the inside of the printer near the paper path (where the paper moves through). Look for any hidden pieces of paper or foreign objects that might be causing the issue.

2. Inspect the Paper Path and Feed Mechanism

If the paper continues to jam even after clearing it, the problem could lie in the paper feed mechanism or sensors that detect paper movement.

  1. Examine the paper rollers for wear and tear. If they seem worn out or slippery (not gripping paper well), they might need to be replaced.
  2. Ensure the paper is loaded properly in the tray: Use only the recommended paper size, and ensure the paper is stacked neatly without any bends or folds.
  3. Check for misaligned paper: Make sure the paper is correctly aligned with the paper tray guides.

3. Check the Printer's Paper Tray

Sometimes, the paper tray itself might cause issues if it's not seated properly or if it's damaged.

  1. Remove the paper tray and inspect it for any damage or warping. If it's warped or broken, the tray could be misfeeding paper.
  2. Ensure the tray is properly aligned and securely reinserted into the printer.

4. Perform Printer Maintenance

If you've already cleared the paper jam but it keeps occurring, try running the printer's built-in maintenance tools.

  1. Run the built-in diagnostics on your printer. You can do this either from the printer's control panel or via the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Perform a printhead cleaning cycle. Sometimes, maintenance can help clear any issues related to the paper path and other internal components.
  3. Perform a test print after running the diagnostics to see if the issue persists.

5. Reset the Printer

A simple reset can sometimes clear any internal errors or malfunctions causing the paper jam issue.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug it from the power source for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  4. Run a test print to see if the issue is resolved.

6. Update Printer Firmware

Sometimes, issues with paper feeding can be resolved by updating the printer's firmware.

  1. Go to the HP support website and search for your printer model (HP OfficeJet Pro 6970).
  2. Check if there is a firmware update available and follow the instructions to update the printer..

Let me know if this helps or if you'd like more detailed instructions! 😊
