HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

HP Office Jet Pro 6978 ALL-In-ONE-PRINTER Carriage is stuck on right side. I cannot move it from the right side. I get "Printer Failure" and various paper jam errors. There are no paper jams. I have done the unplug the cord from printer and wall and push power button for 60 seconds multiple times.  I have checked that all the cartridges are seated correctly.  I have not changed anything recently. The carriage is still stuck.  I have gone through all troubleshooting steps but still it is stuck.

Hi @bopper27,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already attempted several troubleshooting steps for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer. Since the issue persists,

Here are a few additional steps you can try:

  • Check for obstructions: Look inside the printer for any foreign objects that may be obstructing the movement of the carriage. Even small pieces of paper or debris can cause issues.
  • Manually move the carriage: Turn off the printer and try to manually move the carriage along its track. Be gentle but firm, and make sure no obstructions are blocking its movement.
  • Reset the printer: Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve issues. Disconnect the power cord from the printer while it is still on, then wait for about a minute before reconnecting the power cord and turning the printer back on.
  • Inspect the carriage path: Check the carriage path to ensure there are no broken parts or anything that could be causing the carriage to get stuck.
  • Update firmware: If possible, check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer and install them. Sometimes, firmware updates include fixes for issues like this.
