Like most people on this forum I have an expired certificate that I cannot resolve. The date and time are correct, I've also tried to regenerate a new certificate with no luck. The certificate I've regenerated expires in 2035.

Hi @Tim2704

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

You're not alone—this expired certificate issue has been frustrating many macOS Sequoia users, especially with HP OfficeJet and Smart Tank models.

Even after regenerating a valid certificate (like yours, expiring in 2035), macOS may still flag it as expired due to cached data or trust settings.

Here’s a structured approach that’s helped others resolve it:

Step 1: Clear macOS Certificate Cache

macOS may be holding onto the old certificate in Keychain Access.

  • Open Keychain Access (use Spotlight to find it).
  • Search for anything related to your printer (e.g., “HP” or your printer’s hostname).
  • Delete any certificates or saved credentials related to the printer.
  • Restart your Mac.

Step 2: Remove and Re-add the Printer

This refreshes the connection and forces macOS to re-evaluate the certificate.

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and click the button to remove it.
  • Restart your Mac.
  • Add the printer again using the + button.

Step 3: Manually Trust the New Certificate

If macOS still complains:

  • Access your printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering its IP address in a browser.
  • Navigate to Network > Security > Certificates.
  • Confirm the new certificate is active.
  • Download the certificate and open it in Keychain Access.
  • Set it to Always Trust under the certificate settings.

Step 4: Reset the Printing System (if needed)

If the issue persists:

  • In Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list.
  • Select Reset printing system.
  • Re-add the printer afterward.

Let me know how it goes.
