Printer shows that "Printhead appears to be missing..." Went through all the steps including printhead replacement and error still appears.

The "Printhead appears to be missing" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 could persist even after replacing the printhead due to several factors. Here's a detailed troubleshooting guide you can follow.

 

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

Check the New Printhead

  • Ensure that the replacement printhead is compatible with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 model.
  • Remove the printhead again, and make sure there are no protective tapes or coverings left on the printhead or the cartridges.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on both the printhead and the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. These contacts are usually small copper-colored spots.

Update Firmware

  • Make sure the printer's firmware is up to date, as outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with replacement parts.
  • Visit the HP Support website to download the latest firmware for your printer model.

Reinstall Cartridges

  • After cleaning, reinstall the printhead carefully, ensuring it’s securely seated in the printer.
  • Reinstall all ink cartridges, ensuring they click into place.

Check for Blockages

  • Inspect the printhead latch and the printer’s interior for any debris, dried ink, or damage that might prevent proper contact between the printhead and the printer.
