The printer doesn’t go past the Blue Screen with the error code. How do I do a Factory Reset and update firm wareware?

Hi @bill791,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with the error code B89BFAE8 on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 typically indicates a firmware issue or a serious hardware problem. Here’s how you can attempt to resolve the issue by performing a factory reset and updating the firmware.

Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer by unplugging it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

If the issue persists, proceed with the following steps.

Perform a Factory Reset

  1. Disconnect the printer from the network (unplug Ethernet or turn off Wi-Fi).
  2. Turn off the printer again.
  3. Access the printer's recovery mode:
    • Press and hold the back button (the arrow key) on the control panel while turning on the printer.
    • Keep holding the back button until you see a menu on the screen.
  4. In the recovery mode menu, look for the option to Reset or Restore to factory settings. The exact wording may vary.
  5. Select the option to Factory Reset the printer.

Update the Firmware

If the printer boots up successfully after the reset, proceed to update the firmware to prevent future issues.

  1. Reconnect the printer to your network.
  2. Download the latest firmware from the HP support website.
  3. Install the firmware on your printer by following the on-screen instructions provided by the update utility.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
