My screen shows: “There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem, persist contact HP. “ I’ve never had this message pop up before. Usually if I need new ink or I’m low, I’ll get a message telling me that. I have rebooted the printer several times no luck. Any thoughts please?  Thanks

This looks like a hardware issue. However, perform the steps from this document and see if this helps.
