HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer

This printer appears to have just bricked itself for no good/valid reason. Seems like a bunch of other users have also had the same problem with this printer with no responses to actually help or fix it. Lovely.

The printer wasn't printing. Touched the screen. An error code came on screen and flashed the text repeatedly. Sadly, I didn't write down or photo the error message. Pressed power to try and reset. Screen went dim blue and refused to power off. Pulled the power cord and waited 60 seconds. Plugged it back in. Screen flashes very bright white for a split second before going dark. No other response from the printer. It is not paper jammed and has ink. Tried another outlet.

Every time the power cord is plugged in, it just flashes bright and then goes dark. Won't power on.

1. What other steps can I do to troubleshoot?

2. Why can't the HP support site tell me anything about the warranty or not?

3. How can a customer like me actually open a support case? The support site and ai assistant are miserable and actively discourage and elude you away from getting help.

Hi @breedx,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your HP OfficeJet 4650, which may have entered a state of hardware malfunction. Here are some steps and options to consider.

  • Try a Power Reset Again: Unplug the printer, wait at least 2-3 minutes, then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain any residual power. Plug the printer back in and try turning it on.
  • Check the Power Adapter and Cable: If you have access to another compatible power adapter or cable, try using that to rule out issues with the power supply.
  • Firmware Reset (if possible): Some HP models allow a reset by pressing and holding specific buttons while plugging in the power cord, but this method varies. For the OfficeJet 4650, try holding down the Resume and Power buttons while plugging the cord back in.
  • Inspect Internal Components: Remove the ink cartridges and carefully inspect the cartridge area for any debris or unseated components. Reseat any parts, especially the cartridges, as a last step to ensure they’re not causing the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
