I have a OfficeJet 9010 series. The air incompatible cartridges keeps coming up, but it has the correct cartridges in it. How do I fix this problem?

Hi @1912pullen,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 9010 series printer is displaying an "incompatible cartridges" error despite having the correct cartridges installed, you can follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Check Cartridge Numbers: Ensure that you are using the correct cartridge numbers for your OfficeJet 9010 series. For the OfficeJet 9010 series, the standard cartridges are usually the HP 910 series.
  • Genuine HP Cartridges: Confirm that the cartridges are genuine HP cartridges and not refills or third-party replacements.

2. Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Power On Printer: Make sure the printer is turned on.
  • Open Cartridge Access Door: Open the cartridge access door to expose the cartridges.
  • Remove and Reinsert Cartridges: Carefully remove the cartridges, then reinsert them firmly. Ensure they click into place and are seated properly.
  • Close the Door: Close the cartridge access door and check if the error persists.

3. Check for Protective Tape and Packaging:

  • Remove Protective Tape: Ensure that any protective tape or plastic covering on the cartridges has been completely removed.
  • Check Packaging: Verify that no packaging material or plastic is still attached to the cartridges.

4. Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn Off Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Clean Contacts: Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer.
  • Dry Thoroughly: Make sure everything is completely dry before reinserting the cartridges and turning the printer back on.

5. Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Recheck Cartridges: Once the printer restarts, check if the error message is resolved.

6. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for Updates: Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can do this through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website.

7. Verify Cartridge Placement:

  • Double-Check Placement: Ensure that each cartridge is installed in the correct slot. The printer should have specific slots for color cartridges and a separate slot for the black cartridge.

8. Check for Cartridge Damage:

  • Inspect Cartridges: Look for any visible damage or defects on the cartridges. If a cartridge appears damaged, it may need to be replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
