HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 froze after cartridge change (with authentic HP ink). Printer does not respond. On/Off button not functioning. I have unplugged for 5 minutes. After returning power lights come on, printer cartridges do not return to center.

Hi @BarnPrinter

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 has frozen after a cartridge change and is unresponsive, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Force a Power Reset

  • Unplug the Printer: Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Hold Power Button: While the printer is unplugged, press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. This helps to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect and Power On: Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on. See if it starts responding.

2. Check for Obstructions

  • Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams or obstructions that may prevent the cartridges from moving. Clear any debris you find.

3. Reinstall Cartridges

  • With the printer powered off, remove the cartridges and inspect them for any damage. Reinsert them carefully, ensuring they are seated properly.

4. Wait for the Printer to Initialize

  • After powering on, give the printer some time to initialize. It may take a few moments for the cartridges to return to the center after a power reset.

5. Use the Control Panel

  • If the printer starts responding, check the control panel for any error messages or prompts. Follow any on-screen instructions.

6. Update Firmware

  • If you can get the printer to respond, check for firmware updates using the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
