After a few hours of operation, my printer enters this error mode, displaying There is a problem with your printer. Turn the printer off, then on.

 

The printer works otherwise, when it is not displaying this error.

 

I have looked at other posts with the same error, and tried what is suggested there:

 

- Hard reset the printer (pulling plug, etc)

- Update firmware to latest version

 

The installed cartridges are official HP cartridges and Instantlink was never set up.

 

Any other ideas? I would hate to have to buy another printer, as this HP printer has always worked well.
