Printer is having trouble - instead of printing a PDF, for example, it prints a line of code such as "PDF 1.7, /Length 78 / Filter / FlatDecode stream" then shoots out that sheet and starts shooting out blank sheets, occasionally printing another line of code.

Hi @TexRudder

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e is having a communication issue with the print job, leading it to print raw code instead of the actual document, and then spitting out blank sheets. This often happens when there’s a driver issue, printer settings conflict, or corrupt print job. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem.

Step 1: Cancel the Current Print Job

Before proceeding with troubleshooting, cancel any print jobs that might be stuck in the queue and causing the issue.

Open the Print Queue:

  • On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers or Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Find your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e printer in the list.
  • Right-click on the printer and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel any pending print jobs.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off your printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on to clear any residual print jobs.

Step 2: Check the Printer Driver

A corrupted or outdated printer driver can cause this type of issue. Let’s check and update the printer driver.

Reinstall or Update the Printer Driver:

  • Go to the HP Support website: HP Support.
  • Search for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e printer model.
  • Download and install the latest printer driver for your system (make sure it matches your operating system version—Windows or macOS).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you so much! As luck would have it, an automatic update took place the next day, and seems to have solved the problem, probably by updating the drivers, as you mentioned. I've saved your answer so i can apply it if this does occur again. I think I might have been charged for 50 or so sheets of paper in my plan, but I went ahead and upgraded. I figure it was a cheap enough overall fix.
